This is a blog that documents the development of my most recent project, “Three Rivers”. This is a series of monotypes done from sketches and photographs during weekly walks along the banks of the Congaree, Saluda and Broad Rivers between 1/1/08 and 6/30/08 that respond to the light, atmosphere, weather, and passage of time. These are intuitive and abstracted responses to the experience of the intersection of the rivers with the urban evnironment. The sketches and studies provide the source material for the monotypes that have been created in collaboraton with master printer Phil Garrett at King Snake Press in Greenville.
This project is funded by the Cultural Council of Richland & Lexington Counties and the South Carolina Arts Commission, which receives funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and the John and Susan Bennett Memorial Arts Fund from the Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina.
