Upcoming Workshop: Structure & Surface, September 12-14
Join renowned painter and teacher Mary Gilkerson for an experience that will jumpstart your painting practice.
Painting the Landscape with Painting Knife in Hand (evening introduction and 2 full painting days)
This workshop, designed for the beginning to advanced level painter, will start with the basics of the visual language: compositional structure, line, shape, color and surface. Using our own photographs as reference material, we will focus on developing strong compositions for landscape paintings, searching out the underlying patterns that create strong compositions. We’ll practice techniques using the painting knife in a loose, painterly approach that emphasizes the expressive mark while still capturing descriptive detail.
The price of the workshop is $265 and includes 13 hours of instruction.
The format includes demos, short exercises, gentle group critiques, and, with a very limited enrollment, plenty of personal attention from the instructor. Over the course of the weekend, participants will develop a clearer understanding of their own expressive visual language within the context of painting.
