With a dose of laughter (and smores!) every evening.
With plenty of time to take in the breathtaking best that Kanuga and the Appalachians have to offer.

Join me in September for Paint Camp 2019.

Painting in the gorgeous North Carolina mountains!

My team and I are so excited to be able to offer this special “experience” at Kanuga Camp and Retreat Center right outside of Hendersonville, NC.

And I’d love to have you come along!

The “thing”, Paint Camp 2019… it’s not a “traditional” workshop…but an immersive experience…a painter’s retreat.

This experience has been personally crafted by me, for you. Give yourself time and space to renew your creativity, your painting, (and your life)…

So I’d like to invite you to join me and a group of fellow artists at Kanuga, high in the North Carolina mountains for days filled with painting, rest, renewal, and growth.

It’s all inclusive.

My team and I have EVERYTHING covered. You just need to bring you and your paints to Kanuga… And that’s when my team will take over and your experience officially begins.

When you arrive, you’ll get settled into your private room, meet our group of amazing artists (many of whom you may have already met online in our AWL community), and an ice cream social before our first meal together.

The experience will unfold each day, combining a breathtakingly inspirational setting with the powerful energy of a creative group working towards the same goal – a sustainable life that balances art, work, and living – the creative life.

It’s time just for you to focus on your painting, to make new friends, to share the kind of experiences together that build lifelong bonds… so that you leave refreshed and ready to return to the world, to come down off the mountain with a new relationship to yourself, and to your painting.

Because it takes these pauses to recharge and refuel our creative practices.

Pausing to watch the breeze across the lake is just as important as deciding which brush to use or which blue to mix.

Time to paint with daily demos to inspire you, with options for painting inside and out, weather permitting.

And food. Cause creativity takes fuel.

Each day starts with a communal breakfast and is followed by a mouthwatering lunch, and family style dinners that are relaxed enough for lingering over conversation.

To make sure that the inner creative is fed. For your art. For your work. For your creative living.

When you marry these three things, you have a once-in-a-lifetime bucket-list immersive experience.

Would you like to join us?

What’s Included

The Paint Camp package includes the event, a private room for 3 nights at Kanuga, and breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. Paint Camp includes at least two painting locations daily, space for painting indoors if desired or the weather isn’t cooperating, evening activities (including optional critiques), and opening and closing celebrations.

What You’ll Need

You’ll need a portable easel or pochade box with tripod, your paints or colors, enough panels or canvases for at least two paintings per day, knives or brushes, and any other supplies you know you’ll need. Pack clothes that can be worn in layers for warm or cool weather, hiking shoes or boots if you want to explore the miles of trails, and a car (or a friend with one) to get to Kanuga.

Who This Is For

Painting sites are easily accessible without hiking or walking long distances. But more than 20 miles of trails are available if you are up to the walk. You’re responsible for moving your own equipment so try not to pack your whole studio. We are planning full days of painting and optional evening activities: socializing, singalong, campfires, or smores.

All Inclusive Price & Event Package

The package includes the Paint Camp event, your room, three meals daily, and opening and closing celebrations. The Early Bird price is $1,497 (early bird pricing through September 1) per person. The event is open to 50 people.

How Paint Camp Works

We’ll start the mornings with breakfast and announcements in the dining hall, and then head out to painting locations in the surrounding grounds. We’ll be painting as a group, but smaller groups and individuals have the option to go off on their own, or remain indoors to paint. Mary will be doing a demo painting each morning where she’ll share tips, ideas, and techniques. After a delicious and healthy lunch, the group will gather outside again for the afternoon open session. We’ll bring the paintings in for an optional critique/sharing session at the end of the afternoon, eat dinner, and then have time for our optional evening activities. .
