Upcoming Painting Workshop
Structure & Surface: Finding Nature’s Patterns
An Introduction to Painting the Landscape with Painting Knife in Hand
Join renowned painter and teacher Mary Gilkerson this September for an experience that will jumpstart your painting practice.
Evening introduction and 2 full painting days
This workshop, designed for the beginning to advanced level painter, will start with the basics of the visual language: compositional structure, line, shape, color and surface. Using our own photographs as reference material, we will focus on developing strong compositions for landscape paintings, searching out the underlying patterns of color, light and value. We’ll practice techniques using the painting knife in a loose, painterly approach that emphasizes the expressive mark while still capturing descriptive detail.
Price: $325. Enrollment is limited to 10.
The 13 hours of instruction include demos, short exercises, gentle group critiques, and, with a very limited enrollment, plenty of personal attention from the instructor. Over the course of the weekend, participants will develop a clearer understanding of their own expressive visual language within the context of painting.
